June Adventures in Marion County

    Helping you dig a little deeper into Marion County’s most unique events.

    June 5th- Tropical Odyssey Exhibit at the Discovery Centre

    This is the Discovery Center’s newest attraction featuring interactive lessons, such as giant walk-through caterpillars, interactive cocoons and more, help people of all ages learn about wildlife of the rainforest, and how humans effect it. This attraction will be held at the Discovery Center, 701 NE Sanchez Ave. The cost of this event is 6$ per person and 20$ per family tour.

    June 5th- Medieval to Metal: The Art and Evolution of the Guitar

    This attraction is held at the Appleton Museum of Art and will feature how guitars have shaped history and how have shaped guitars. Collections of guitars will be displayed ranging from rare to classic.

    June 6th-  Line Dancing at the Forest Community Centre

    Experience line dancing at it’s greatest with family, friends, and your community at Sandhill Park!

    June 6th- Word Weavers Writing Group

    The Word Weavers Writing Group is an all women writing group which meets the first and third of every Thursday. The meetings start at 6pm and the group starts with a pot luck supper and follows with discussion of reading, writing, and sharing. Any writer is welcome experience ranging from beginner to experienced. These meetings will be held at Crones’ Cradle Conservation, call 352-595-3377 for more information.

    June 7th- “Mama Mia!”

    A classic musical that is a tale of love, friendship, and laughter told through songs and dances. Mama Mia! is never a musical to disappoint and will provide you or your family with a good time. The performance will start at 8 pm and end at 10 pm, tickets cost 28$, 12$ for students, and will be held at the Ocala Civic Theatre.

    June 8th- Reading with a Ranger

    Reading with a Ranger is a program in which children are invited to and focused upon. The program is a park ranger reading books to children. On June 8th the reading will be held at Jervey Gantt Park starting at 11 pm and urging parents to have a picnic outside afterwards.

    June 8th- Ocala Comedy Showcase

    Turns out combining four comedians with over 30 years of experience will create a hilarious almost questionable experience! Who knew? The Ocala Comedy Showcase will leave you red faced and laughing!


    June 8th- After Dark in the Park Movies

    Located at Tuscawilla Art Park, the movie “Basquiat” will be showing. Popcorn, soft drinks, and other refreshments will be available for a fee. Don’t forget to bring blankets and lawn chairs!


    June 9th- Farmstead Weekend

    the Farmstead is a farmer’s market held every Saturday and Sunday at 9am to 12pm at Crones’ Cradle Conserve. Learn more about different types of vegetables and pick up some naturally and carefully grown food which helps nourish and energize you!


    June 9th- Ocala Downtown Market

    The Ocala Downtown Market is a wide array of farmers, food trucks, artisans, and craftspeople, who come together to sell their product to people from Marion county as well as tourists and travelers. the Ocala Downtown Market is set just blocks away from the Ocala Downtown Square in a beautiful open-air market pavilion. The Ocala Downtown Market runs from 9am-2pm.

    June 13th- Ocala Art Group Meeting

    Visitors and residents of Marion County alike are welcome at the Ocala Art Group Meeting! This month’s program will be focusing on the Dutch post- impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh. The accomplished artist Terry Luke, will be speaking at the meeting and attendees will be able to ask questions and gain advice from her. The lecture is free and the meeting will be held at the Ocala Public Library in conference room B.


    June 14th- Cal Ripken Rookie Qualifier

    The Cal Ripken Rookie Qualifier will take place at Rotary Sportsplex and will consist of 6o teams who compete for a chance to play in the Florida State Tournament.

    June 17th- Pickin’ in the Park At Silver Springs State Park

    Enjoy visiting musicians playing acoustic music in the beautiful Silver Springs scenery. Feel free to bring your own instruments to join in or just listen.


    June 21st- Cirque Italia Presents: “Paranormal Cirque!”

    Cirque Italia a is a crazy- yet fun, mixture of the circus cabaret, and theatre all working in perfect harmony to create a mesmerizing show, the show takes place at 2232 NE Jacksonville Road, Ocala, FL 34470, Livestock Pavilion.


    June 22nd- Levitt Amp Ocala Music Series

    The Levitt Amp Ocala Music Series is a  nonprofit spotlight organization which focuses on Marion Cultural Alliance. The show will include an all women mariachi band with an opening act of Alex and Duo. The show will be held at Webb Field – Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Complex.


    June 22nd- Disney’s Frozen Sing-a-long

    Disney’s Frozen will come to life on Reilly’s screen for the ultimate sing-a-long experience- great for families! Tickets are 15$, and student tickets are 8$. The screening of this warmhearted movie will be located at the Reilly Arts Center at 500 NE 9th Street, Ocala, FL 34470. Be sure to make it to the greatest movie night ever!


    June 23rd- Ocala Comic Con

    Ocala Comic Con is a multi-genre pop culture event taking place in Ocala. The main goal of the Comic Con is to bring something new to Ocala. This event will be located at the Hilton Ocala.

    June 23rd- Wind FM Rocks the Reilly

    Join Wind FM, the ultimate Aerosmith tribute band,  for an all American rock concert! They’ll cover over half of America’s greatest Rock hit songs, and implore all ages to come for a friendly, and energizing experience located at the Reilly Centre!
